I don't know about you guys but I've never heard of ION products before. So when I received an email from them about a new website I thought it was just another one of the hundreds of spam emails that spill through my filters each day, but before marking it as spam like all the rest I thought I'd give it a quick look.
ION's product range includes beach and street wear, sunglasses, wet suits and bike gear. Sure the bike gear is mountain bike oriented but isn't more of the race gear that we use anyway?
After drilling down through the massive range of gear they have available I finally found their gear that would be suitable for BMX racing. It's called the Slash Series. It's only available in one colour. There's the Voltage jersey that's available in sizes Small to XXL, the Sabotage Shorts in sizes 30-38 and the Sabotage pants also available in size 30-38.

Jason Bergstrom (USA) has been part of the bmxultra.com crew for a while now. It's been a while since he's raced and just as long since he's taken photos for us. But while on a holiday at the Gold Coast he shot a heap of photos at the Nerang Nationals back in January. It's taken us a while to get them up on the site, but they are there now. Enjoy! Supercross BMX Australia press release
Peter Little and Esther Woodward were shredding for Supercross at different ends of Australia on the weekend.
Peter Little
Peter had a great weekend at the two day open event at his home track in Proserpine Queensland. When it came to the final Peter managed to finish on the podium with a second place.
Esther Woodward
Esther was at the third round of the Victorian Pro series at the Park Orchards track. She was looking strong in the first straight all day but just couldn't keep her flow down the second straight. But who's going to be upset with a 2-2-2 in the three moto finals and a second place overall?

Round three of the Victorian Pro series circus rolled into Park Orchards on the weekend. Despite leading the overall series Dane Pangallo sat out the round as a healthy scratching. Levi Collins was out due to injury.
While the weather looked like it was going to be bad after heavy rainfall on Saurday on race day it all turned around and made for some great racing.
Aaron Rogers (Vet Pro)
Aaron was our sole representative at Park Orchards. Aaron was flying in qualifying even taking a win one of the heats, this put him in his first Vet Pro final for a while. Aaron finished with a 8-6-6 in the three moto final and finished up with a seventh overall. Nice job Rad-Dog!

The Morphine Crew headed to Oldsmar BMX for the Gator Nationals, one of the first big stops of the race year. Morphine came sporting the new threads and its usual swagger.
A Pro - Olijuwon Davis, started off the weekend racing on Friday night, he made a statement that he came a long way to win. He backed that statement up with a top podium spot to start the weekend.
Saturday and Sunday were hard fought with 20+ riders in the field. O.D. took a 4th on Saturday and narrowly missing the main on Sunday.
Vet Pro - Tim Dinger, came to practice and hang with the family. However with less than a month back on the track after a frustrating year of two broken collar bones and a severe leg injury requiring surgery to repair ligaments that articulate his ankle, Tim could not resist the urge to race.
Saturday started off with an impressive show of his raw talent and desire and he started off in the top three for the first few motos. Round three saw Dinger get the jhole shot on a stacked motto and lead the line-up into the second turn. Tim jumped the triple into the turn and washed out taking a breathtaking face plant into the asphalt knocking himself out cold. However in true dinger fashion, he got up and brushed himself off only losing some skin and a few points off his I.Q.
It was great to see Dinger back and with a new desire and we look forward to him coming back full strength!
19-27X - Brandon Elmore, unfortunately showed up to Oldsmar under the weather. He was able to pull it together on Saturday and in one of the toughest classes took a deuce and a spot on the podium. However, Sunday was rough and Brandon was unable to get himself up and running and pulled out.
Jr. Men / 16X - Noah Reeves, took the first opportunity available to step it up at Oldsmar and jump into the Jr. men class. Noah hit the track on Saturday in class with a great start and a podium stop with a 3rd. Jr. Men came up short with a one point deficient to make the main. Sunday proved to be a flip flop, taking a lane 8 first turn pinch in semi to miss class and taking a lane 8 start in Jr. men to get tangled but come back to a 7th place in Main.
11X - Dylan Shipley, hitting the track for the first time as an 11x was no different and just another day to take care of business. Dylan rode strong all weekend even with a hard digger on Saturday. Taking a solid 5th on Saturday and coming back for more on Sunday with a podium finish of 3rd.
Next stop on the tour – Hometown of a large portion of Morphine Crew – Hotlanta and Powder Springs.

Crisp Bros Racing press release
If there was one brand in Australian BMX that became a household name back in the early 80’s it would be Crisp Bros Racing.
The rider owned company started by the legend racer himself Dean Crisp and his Brothers back in late 1983. Dean designed and developed a series of race winning Australian made Frame and fork sets and manufactured race clothing, pads and plates under his parent’s house in Brisbane and grew to become a dominate force in Australian BMX until sold in 1990.
Since then finding any of these rare frame and fork sets produced back in the 80’s has become particularly hard. It’s not known how many Frame and Fork sets were produced over the years as none of the frames were stamped or numbered.
We are proud to announce that Crisp Bros Racing will return to the Australian BMX scene in 2013. To commemorate Crisp Bros Racing’s return we are producing 20, 1985 Crisp Pro Frame and Fork sets. These sets are exact reproductions off an original 1985 Crisp Pro frame and fork with angles, drop-outs and tubing exact in every way. Each of these sets will be numbered individually on the rear of the frame dropout and on the fork steerer so as not to be confused with original frame and fork sets owned by collectors. These frame and fork sets will be offered in white only or upon special request as a raw set.
Although it is our main intention to only create 20 frame sets, if demand exceeds our expectations we will consisder an additional small run, frame sets will not exceed 50 units.
Sourcing a manufacturer was next and in keeping with the history of the brand they had to be made in Australia. Only one frame builder could do this classic frame and fork set justice, Johnny Chopper. We chose the 1985 version to replicate as we felt it was the best option that would give you the avid collector more for your hard earned dollar. Each frame is constructed out of 4130 Chromoly as they were back in the day and each masterfully welded by hand. All frames will come with a limited lifetime warranty as well.
Frame & Fork kits will go on sale once all 20 sets are complete & ready ship, no waiting lists or payment before frame sets are complete. These frames will be sold online at www.crispbrosracing.com.au on a first in first served basis to make it fair. Prices will be revealed on the day of sale! You can also follow us on Facebook/Crisp Bros Racing which will be live in a few days.
We hope you join the Crisp Bros Racing re-issue project by purchasing one of these amazing frame kits.

One Bicycles Australia press release (Written by Miekel Rose)
This year’s lead up to the ACT’s was another wet one, making it difficult to get much track time in preparation for the event. The Rose kids had just received their 2013 ONE Frames and were dying put them to the test at this year’s event. The weather gods were smiling on the ACT club who battled to get the track ready for the Championships, who were also hosting Rounds 5 and 6 of the National Series.
Mikayla Rose decided to race her cruiser again on the Saturday to see if she could retain the number one plate. In the heats leading up to the final moto, Mikayla had two wins and a close second to her State Team mate Felicia Thomas. It was down to the final moto to decide if Mikayla could hold on to her plate for another year. Mikayla had gate 8 and Felicia Gate 1 which made it hard work for her to get to the stripe first. The two girls battled all the way to the stripe with Felicia taking the win by centimetres. On a countback due to equal points Felicia took the overall win with Mikayla a 2 ACT for her hard work.
On Sunday Mikayla was riding her brand new custom painted pink 2013 ONE. The paint work was done by her Team mate and amazing painter Chris Van Winden, so Mikayla wanted to start her 2013 campaign in style and with another State number 1 plate. Mikayla battled all through the motos with friend and NSW Champion Emma O’Hearn but managed to keep her at bay to take three wins from three starts. In the final Moto, Mikayla was beaten to the holeshot but through sheer determination and some great skills, managed to take the lead back down the third straight to take off and cross the line to take her 4th State Title in a row, with Emma taking the number 2 spot.
Nik Rose was racing in the 15 boys Champbikx rounds on Friday and Saturday and was hoping to do well on his home track. All the talent in this age class were there to compete and the racing was close and tough. Nik managed to stay in the top 4 riders in each moto on both days and made it through to the semis on both days, only missing the final by a few places. Nik was happy with his racing, but realises that he needs to increase his strength to keep up with the stronger riders in his class.
On Sunday Nik was mixing it up in the 15 boys class at the ACT’s and this is one tough class. Nik was riding well again and basically rode as strong as he did on the preceding two days with similar results. Nik sat in the top 4 in his motos securing another semi-final birth. When the gate dropped Nik found himself sitting in the top 4 til the second corner when he was overtaken by a rider down the third and then dropped another spot heading in the the rhythm straight. When the dust settled and the race was over Nik had crossed in 6th spot missing a chance to retain his ACT Plate for 2013. Once again Nik was happy with this goal to make semis in such a tough class. With more strength training Nik will be up there soon mixing it with the top riders again.
Josh Rose has dropped back from Junior Elite to compete in the 17+ Class as his time to train has been limited. He came out all guns blazing on Friday in the National Series with a second and two first places in the motos, giving him loads of confidence for the final. Josh’s lack of speed in the first straight has been his downfall and in the final this took its toll with him having to fight his way through the pack to fight hard for a third place finish. On Saturday he was feeling confident and knew what he needed to do to better his result. Round 6 was not his round with some biff and barge Josh had a first a thord and a fifth to make it to the finals again but after another woeful start he had to fight his way back this time unfortunately finding too much carnage along the way which caused him to ride off the track. Once he made his way to the track he rolled through the line in seventh and a little disappointed.
Sunday saw Josh a little rested and ready for the ACT Championships. He came out strong and dominated the class all weekend with firsts all through the motos. In the final there was more carnage and he escaped it even after being hit from behind. It was nice to watch him take away the number 1 plate for this class and his first ever number one.
Great results this weekend from the Rose division of the ONE Team and great to be able to do this in front of sponsors from ECI. As a BMX Family it is great to be supported by dedicated people and companies and the kids are so proud to wear the ONE brand and along with SNAP and Lizard Skins we are truly grateful for the support. There are many people to thank who keep these kids in the best gear on the track. Huge thanks to Christian from ONE Bicycles, Paul, Gary and Mon from ECI, to Mr BMXULTRA himself Shane Jenkins, Craig Fisher and Bike Corp and Scotty Hand from A Team Distribution. At these big events my lovely wife keeps the kids fed, organised and ready to race and without her I would be lost. Sad the Beattie clan couldn’t make it this year with Justin injuring himself and knocking himself silly a week out training with his team mates, but he will be back to clock up number 5 at Sleeman I am sure! It was great to have good friends the Hughes family stay this year and watch Andy race hard in 15 boys. Can’t wait til next year and see if Mikayla can continue her streak and if Josh can go back to back and Nik step it up and get another plate on his ride. Thanks to you all.

Supercross BMX Australia press release
With Peter Little back on his bike we had two SX factory riders at Canberra for the ProBikx national series and ACT championships.
Peter Little
Peter made his first appearance on the national circuit at Canberra since joining the Supercross Australia team. Peter has had to watch the first half of the series from the sidelines due to injury, and although not full recovered, Peter thought he would start getting his mind set ready early for the National Championships.
After the two days of racing Peter knows that he has some work to do, but he's been at the head of the pack before, it's only a matter of time before he's back to full fitness and strength. Watch this space.
Esther Woodward
(We asked Esther for a report and this is what she came up with. It's a great insight to her weekend at Canberra)
My Supercross was packed and I was ready as we headed off to Canberra for rounds 5 and 6 of the Probikx series, and also the 2013 ACT BMX Championships. Following a few chats about changing my gearing for a long six straight track we decided to leave it to my normal 46, 17. Turns out it was perfect for the track and track conditions.
We left a scorching summer’s day in Bendigo only to wake up to a chilly, drizzly, windy Canberra. The weather reminded me of last year’s event that was flooded out and I spent the night tossing up whether to put a pair of knobbies on the bike or not.
After having an early start on Friday morning getting ready for an early practice on the Tuggeranong track where I would be spending the next three days racing hard, practice was cancelled so they could have the track ready for the Probikx/ Champbikx later that day, and what a great call that was, the track was feeling fast by the time we got practice. Although it was unseasonally cold, the rain had disappeared and the track was in top notch condition after the work so the knobbies were not needed this time around.
Due to low numbers in the Elite Women class our Junior Elite class had been combined with those of the Elite Women. Following warm up it was time for the time trails where I managed to go one better than round 4 and finished 9th with a time of 49.284 seconds. It was race time and I was ready for my first moto. I pedalled out of first corner battling for 3rd and 4th and I collided with another rider, slid out but picked myself up and finished the race. Determined to get back on track, the second moto was definitely better as I came down first straight and easily slotted into 3rd position with a 49.286 finish and this is exactly how it went for my third moto as well but with a faster time of 48.416. Doing this qualified me 5th into the finals.
For the final I made the decision that I didn’t want to go an outside lane as I wanted to get in the mix a little more and chose gate five being the closest to the inside that I could get at that stage. I had another good gate start (4th fastest reaction time) and really pushed hard for a good position but of course being in gate five meant I would very much be in the mix and I was, pushing my way through but also getting pushed around! Coming out of the first corner I had fallen to the back of the pack, but not giving up I kept trying but so did the other girls. Although I finished in 8th position I was extremely happy that I had managed to make my second finals of the Probikx series (and this one in Elite Women). After being at the track from an early 8am until around 6pm it was certainly time to go back to the hotel for a well-deserved meal and sleep.
Day two was an even earlier start and definitely a lot colder, I was wearing three jackets just to stay warm! Not being able to stay very warm made things difficult for Saturdays racing. Finishing my time trail 11th I wasn’t very pleased so I knew I had to do something to earn those points. Sitting there shivering on the gate for moto one I pushed until the finish line but only managed a 5th. Moto two was up and having the same gate draw as Friday I felt happy I was on the inside. Despite still being cold to the core I kept trying and coming out of the first turn I pushed through and pulled in front of another rider but doing this also left an opening for another, putting me back into 5th position once again. I think by now I was well and truly frozen still trying to keep warm in between races wasn’t working as well as I had hoped (Event the jokes about being from Tassie and being used to it weren’t working!). Pushing through the cold wind down first straight was certainly hard and testing me, as it would have been for everyone else, but it was the last moto and I knew I just had to get a top 2 position to make the finals I so badly wanted. It didn’t happen and I was disappointed, I finished with a 6th place which stopped me from making finals, finishing 10th overall for the day. My times confirmed it was not my day today, but I reminded myself that tomorrow is another day.
As racing had started so early it also meant it finished early which meant I was able to just relax and prepare for day three of racing and having that well deserved mars bar (that I got told off for…).
Although I woke feeling relaxed and happy for 2013 ACT BMX Championships I also knew how badly I wanted to hold onto my 3rd position I had just recently (December) got in the AA women. Realising I had started off my first moto for that past three days with gate eight I was certainly over it, but with the aim of doing what I had to to gain a 4th in my first moto I was very pleased as I was on the way to making another AA women’s final. Getting ready for moto two I was told “don’t just do what you have to do, go better than that and work for the finals, and earn it” and didn’t that work! After getting a brilliant first straight I was sitting in 2nd position and held onto it until the end, crossing the line in 48.122 – my personal best time. Being very happy with this result I was in a much more cheery and bubbly mood than usual. It may have also had something to do with it being a warmer day too.
Third moto was up and I had another great first straight and was sitting in a very pleasing 2nd. Coming out of the 4th corner I came to a near stand still where I just slowed right down and dropped back to 4th, not only confusing me but my mum and friends. Luckily I still managed to qualify in 7th position. I certainly made a comment about needing to eat mars bars before racing more often!
It was finals time and having 7th pick of the gate, I decided I would pick gate 8 and I knew what I had to do. The gate dropped and being on the outside of a faster rider I was able to push across with them giving me another good first straight. Out of turn one I was sitting in 6th and on the inside into the second turn which happened to be a near 90 degree turn that also lead into the pro section, being in 6th position kept me out of the rummage where some had taken the turn too wide and pushed each other nearly into the pro section, I saw an opening and took it, peddling past into 3rd position and just thinking “pedal!”. I saw the two front runners well ahead of me where I knew I just had to hold my 3rd position. I knew the girls behind me were waiting for me to slip up or for an opening where they could take the 3rd position. Manualing the fourth straight my back end kicked up a little and I got the crowd going as I got a little loose but I was still in third and I just kept pushing and pushing until the finish, I crossed the line with the biggest smile because I knew I had managed to keep that 3rd. I was breathless and over the moon at the same time. In three days I had managed to tick off one of my goals that I set for myself a few weeks back. So far this year everything is going to plan and after such a fantastic weekend of racing I came away knowing what I need to work on now on my path to Nationals.

bmxultra.com press release
It's been a wirlwind of a year for the bmxultra.com team riders so far so we thought we'd play catch up. The boys have had their share of ups and downs.
Shane Jenkins (Vet Pro)
It looks like the team manager Shane Jenkins is out for some time while he recovers from a back injury received in late November. He did manage to sneak in a race at BSX and despite his condition did well to make the B-final and finish in fourth place overall out of 17 30+ riders. Things are looking up though, Shane is now back on his bike after a long break.
Aaron Rogers (Vet Pro)
Aaron kicked off his year at Track Attack, although a little time limited he had to pick and choose his races. Although Aaron was in the running at Track Attack the best he could manage was a bunch of semi finals, which is still a big effort with the quality of the racing in Vet Pro in Victoria kicking up a knotch.
Aaron also raced at BSX where he made it through the time trial but was eliminated in the quarter finals (round of 16).
Aaron went to Lilydale for the first round of the PRA Pro Tour in much better condition. With 17 riders in the field once again he was knocked out in the semi missing out narrowly with a fifth place.
Aaron was as determined as ever, hungry to make the main at Round 2 of the PRA Tour. This time he made it happen. Finishing up with a third place in the semi and eighth overall after the three moto finals.
Dane Pangallo (A Pro)
Dane has had a blinder of a year so far, sure he hasn't done a lot of racing but when he turns up he makes his presence felt.
Dane missed all of Track Attack but managed to get along to BSX where he proved that he wasn't just a powerhouse, but that he could also handle the tight technical track too. Dane posted the sixth fastest time in Pro Open in a field that included UCI Supercross racers like Josh Callan, Bodi Turner and USA's Barry Nobles. Dane managed to put together some great laps and made it all the way to the quarter finals (round of 8).
At round 1 of the PRA Pro Tour at Lilydale Dane was looking almost unbeatable. With a 1-6-1 in the three moto finals he finished with second overall.
At round 2 of the Pro Tour in Geelong Dane was once again looking the goods and flying the bmxultra.com colour very high. In the mains he finished 2-2-2 and placed second overall. The second put Dane in the A Mens class lead for the series and overall points leader.
Levi Collins (AA Pro)
We asked Levi if he'd put together an update from the year so far, check this out:
2013 so far is panning out to be a big year; training hard and racing as much as possible, setting small goals in the lead up to the main goal in sight, the World Championships.
Track Attack - I didn't expect a lot after not training, only getting in the occasional ride and being silly season at work trying to get trailers finished before first round of the V8 Supercars, the week before and during Track Attack working 75hrs both weeks i felt a bugged.
I was getting smoked out the gate but my track speed seemed ok. I managed to qualify for all finals except for one of them. The racing was awesome, it was close and everyone was aggressive with a few new riders up from A Pro in the mix. I finished mid pack most finals and equal 3rd in the series overall and I was happy with that. Knowing what I had to work on I went home and started on my training.
The next stop was Round 1 of the PRA Pro Tour at Lilydale. I was exited to get started. If it was anything like last year's tour it going to be awesome. When I turned up weather was perfect and track looked good. AA Pro numbers were down, people out with injury and other commitments, it didn't stop the racing from being intense. With eight riders in the field we dropped one rider off so we still had a final (of 7 riders). The format for PRA is a three moto final which I prefer. It brings a whole other game plan. My starts were a lot better than previous weeks I'd worked on them a lot since Track Attack. I qualified comfortably for the main, I was third to first turn in the first two finals, mad making a pass down the second straight in the first two finals finishing second in both. I was feeling good going into the third final, I made a small mistake on the first jump and was on the outside into the first tirn which is tight and was run high, my front wheel slid off the top of the corner so down I went. I finished fourth overall.
Mount Gambier South Australian state tittles were on the list next. Blue Lake is a sweet track, AA Pro had about 12 riders and everyone was fast! I was on the new One Bicycles frame with a lot of new parts thanks to bmxultra.com and Elite Cycle Imports. I felt good, but struggling with conference over the pro section. I qualified for the final in eighth and was stoked just to make it. I came from lane 7 with a good start. I was in the mix for once banging bars on a super fast straight but I wasn't gunna back out. I came unclipped over the small roller and pumped into the corner I thought I had clipped back in. As I went to pedal, my foot slipped and down I went again this time it hurt, bruising my ribs and hurting my wrist. I didn't ride all week trying to heal up a little.
I decided to head to Park Orchards before moving on to Geelong the next day for the second round of the PRA Pro Tour even though I could put up with the painful ribs the wrist was too week and painful so I decided to watch at Geelong, also not entering for ACT open championships.
I have to keep my major goals in sight by healing up properly now, so I'm back on the bike ready to go 100%, with a couple of weeks off the bike I'll be back in the race and hopefully up front.
'til next time, Levi

DK Australia press release
The Canberra rounds have always been a wet event for the last few years and checking the weather forecast that was going to be the same for rounds 5 & 6 this year also. But we woke up Friday morning to overcast skies and blustery winds which were playing havoc on the tents around the track. The Tuggeranong track committee and volunteers did an exceptional job in getting the track up and running after all the rain they had received and with the event delayed only an hour hats off to the crew.
DK riders in attendance were series leaders Anthony Dean(elite men), Aaron Nottle(junior elite men), Rachel Jones(Junior Elite), Matt White(15 Boys) and then other team riders Luke Madill, Corey Stafford, Blake Moore and Mitch Hoad.
ROUND 5:
DK Athlete Anthony Dean has been training hard and after winning the last 3 events was it going to be his day to go on to 4 unbeaten rounds in a row. The answer to that was yes indeed but it was not easy for him after sitting back in 2nd after the first corner he made his move down the 4th straight and passed New Zealand Olympian Kurt Pickard to take the top spot once again. Luke Madill was also looking good on the bike and also made it thru to the main event and when he crossed the line he was in that 3rd spot. DK 1 and 3 in Elite men.
Rachel Jones had the Junior and Elite woman combined due to lack of riders in Elite Woman. Rach was on fire all day taking wins during the moto’s but unfortunately she got squeezed in the main down the first straight and had to settle for 4th place.
In Junior Elite, Aaron Nottle was looking good all day and when the gate dropped in the main event he led from start to finish in impressive form and shows why he is series leader. Blake Moore also made the main after riding well all day and with a great ride finished just of the podium in 4th.
Vet Pro was up next and DK Team Manager, Corey Stafford was on fire during the moto’s but after a bad start in the main he pushed thru down the first straight but clashed with another rider and had a huge crash into turn 1 and finished 8th after dusting himself off.
Matt White was flying during practice and brought that to racing, winning every lap and making it through to the main event in 15 boys. When the gate dropped, Matt was caught wide and was sitting in 5th place out of turn 2 but in an amazing ride fought his way back to cross the line in 1st place.
ROUND 6:
Once again in Elite Men, DK Athlete Anthony Dean turned up with taking the double win on his mind. Anthony once again cruised through his moto’s and semi, putting himself in the main event. Once the gate dropped, Anthony hit the front and took the win, making it a double for the weekend. Another big weekend for the man from South Australia. Luke Madill also made the main but unfortunately was caught up in a crash and had to settle with 7th.
Rachel Jones turned up Saturday wanting to forget about the main from Saturday and once again showed that she has a bright future in BMX with some great display of skill. After making the main again in Elite Woman as a junior rider she led from start to finish claiming another win in the series and cementing herself as series leader.
Aaron Nottle turned up Saturday with taking the double on his mind and showed some great power and skills to take round 6 and also cementing himself as series leader. Blake Moore is starting to show some form and let’s hope the Australian selectors are watching as he rode well thru moto’s and made the main. When the gate dropped he was 2nd into turn one where he stayed to the finish making it a 1 and 2 finish for DK.
Vet Pro Corey Stafford was riding well and cruised thru moto’s to take a spot in the main event. When the gate dropped he led from start to finish taking his first win of the season but also keeping the crowd entertained with a crash after the finish line.
Matt White (15 boys) was looking good once again and proved what a great future he has in the sport. Matt went on to double for the weekend taking out the final in the 15 boys class and is also the series leader.
Mitch Hoad(14 boys) has been training hard during the break between rounds and was looking great on the bike which led Mitch to make his first final for the series and placing 4th in a incredible ride.
Was a fantastic weekend for the DK factory team winning a lot of the main events and showing why the Green and Black army are a force to be reckoned with.

Press release
First we started with the Champbix on Friday and Saturday the weekend of 1st, 2nd of March. We had one
rider, Aislynn Weber from Queensland competing in the 15 year girl’s class. Aislynn has been the best of all
the Australian 15 year girls over the past 4 rounds and that was not going to change. Aislynn finished 5th in
round 5 and managed to come home first on Saturday in Round 6.
The ACT State Championships commenced on Saturday 2nd March for the cruiser riders. We had a total of
6 riders competing for the day. We managed to come home with 4 State Plates.
Saturday was also when we had 3 riders trying out for the Mighty 11’s. Zack Pankhurst, George Harvey and
Chloe Dallinger all rode extremely well over the 4 rounds. The first 4 riders of both boys and girls are
chosen to compete against New Zealanders best riders. Unfortunately George Harvey finished 14th and was
not selected. Chloe Dallinger finished 3rd in the girls class and Zack Pankhurst finished 1st in the boys class.
Both Chloe and Zack have been selected to represent Australian in June.
Sunday had the 20” riders come out to play. The team had 12 riders racing for a State Plate. We came away
with 6 plates and some of the riders were very unlucky to just miss out.
The entire team would like to thank all our sponsors, Rush Industries, Rock’n’Roll, Axleworx, Team Navy,
KWT (Maxxis), BMX International (Redline,) Smiths Optics, Troy Lee Design and Minoura. Without your
ongoing support our team would not look so good and also ride with so much pride.

BMX Australia press release
The BMX Australia National Series has wrapped up rounds 5 & 6 in the Nations capital with the competitive racing seeing the winners of each round vary for all but a small number of classes.
Just 5 riders were fortunate enough to make it 2 wins in the double header format at the Tuggeranong BMX track in Canberra. Scoring impressive wins yet again was Men Elite rider Anthony Dean, who has now stretched his winning run to 5 consecutive wins in 6 races.
Credit must be given to ACT BMX and the Tuggeranong BMX Club who worked hard to get the track open for racing after a week of torrential rain and flash flooding in the area. The team of volunteers from the club was assisted on Friday when the track still required some work to get it ready with several people grabbing shovels to clear the mud and roll the surface.
The results from the track work came in the way of some action packed racing across all age groups where riders were looking to either cement their place in the overall series standing or improve on it.
The Men Elite category continues to be dominated by South Australia’s Anthony Dean who has been working hard with the BMX Australia High Performance Program, something which he credits his success this year with.
“I’ve been working with the BMXA HPP and they’re really helping me get it together for a good year,” Dean said.
“They’re putting a lot of support in behind me and also giving me that confidence for what I need on the track and just giving me that backing that I can win races.”
The confidence to win races is clear to see with Anthony clearing the gate well and establishing himself in to the first corner.
“Confidence is the biggest part for me, just to lead the pack up and ride a clean smooth lap up front is been a massive part of my own success,” he said.
“I’ve been working real hard on full laps of the tracks, but the first 20 metres out of the gate is something that I’ve been working on to get me out front.
For Anthony the international scene will soon start and already the goals are in place for the season.
“World Cups is finals all the time and podiums are the big goal. I’ve been working with the BMXA HPP, they’re really helping get it together for a good year.”
In the women’s category, the Women Elite and Junior Women were merged for the 2 rounds and saw a different winner across both days. In Round 5, New Zealand’s Hannah Sarten took the win from Australian riders Sarah Harvey, Harriet Burbidge-Smith and Rachel Jones, however Jones reversed her fortunes in Round 6 taking the win.
Rachel, riding in her second year in the Junior Women, got away for a clean start getting to the first turn with the pack settling in behind her. By the time the race moved to the third staring on the unusually long track Jones and Sarah Harvey had put some distance between them and the pack.
“I had a good race, I came out strong right from start to finish and after 4th result yesterday it was good to come up with a win,” Jones said.
Asked whether she was disappointed about the result from Round 5, Rachel said,” I was a little bit. I was held out in the corner I could have got a better result but coming back (for the win) feels good and hopefully I’m still leading the series.”
Across the 11 categories contested it was Dylan Scruton (QLD), Matthew White (VIC), Gemma-Lee Thomas (NSW), Aaron Nottle (WA) and Anthony Dean (SA) who managed to win both rounds.

BMX Australia press release
Anthony Dean has continued his streak of wins, stretching it out to 4 in Tuggeranong for the BMX Australia National Series. Dean is becoming a familiar face being first across the finish line in the Men Elite Category however he was feeling the effects of a tough day of racing.
Canberra had been hit hard during the week with torrential rain leaving the Tuggeranong track looking more like a swimming pool than a BMX track. Some luck with the weather meant that a team of volunteers from the club could start preparing the track for the 2 day National Series event ahead of the weekend of racing. With the track still needing urgent attention on race day, a small army of volunteers grabbed shovels, brooms and rollers to bring the track up to scratch leaving the week of rain a distant memory.
“This track can be difficult,” Anthony Dean said. “It’s not like some other ones where there are concrete or asphalt berms. On this track you really have to crank out of the turns to keep going.”
Finding himself in the number one spot again, Dean replied by saying, “this is the place where I want to be.”
Meanwhile, the Elite Women and Junior Women categories were merged with junior rider Hannah Sarten fron New Zealand stealing the win in Australia’s capital. Sarten is no stranger to the podium having already claimed a first and a second in Nerang and her goal is to take more wins off the Aussies.
“I’m pretty stoked about it (the win). I didn’t think I’d get it,” she said.
“I want to get the win again tomorrow in Round 6, and I’ll be racing in Round 7 up in Queensland.”
“I want to make the New Zealand team for the Worlds for the Junior Women,” Sarten said of her goals for the future.
All the finals action can be viewed at BMXA TV.
Racing continues on Saturday March 2, where riders will be competing in Round 6 of the BMX Australia National Series.Challenge Series 17-24 Men: Final
